The facilities, in detail

For food and drink, the hotel lists bars, coffee and room service. Practical services include 24 hour front desk, 24h. security, free car parking, laundry service, luggage storage and parking. In the room itself: bathroom, free wifi, hairdryer, iron and board, safe and shower. The full list of 50 facilities is below; double-check the ones that are deal-breakers when you book, as hotels adjust what they offer by season.

Good to know before you book

The booking flow is three steps: dates and guests in this page's widget, the live price on app.impt.io, and instant confirmation. Most rooms are offered with free cancellation until a few days before arrival — the exact deadline is shown next to each rate before you pay. Every confirmed booking also removes a tonne of CO₂ through IMPT's carbon-removal projects, at no extra cost to you. When comparing, note that the four-star rating reflects the hotel's declared standard; the guest reviews on this page tell you how it actually feels to stay. Prices on this page are shown in US dollars, converted from the euro rates our scans observed; the exact total for your stay, including any taxes and fees, is confirmed in the booking funnel before you pay.

Step'antsminda for hotel guests

At 1,740 m in the Khevi valley, the village sits under Mount Kazbek with Gergeti Trinity Church on the shoulder of the ridge, and works as a base for Juta, the Sno valley, Truso and the Dariali gorge. Our 2026 scans found 112 properties here, with rooms from around US$43 and a typical from-price of roughly US$95 — mostly family guesthouses, a handful of proper hotels, and a season that swings hard between a packed August and an empty February. Best hotel in Gudauri. Rooms are tidy and clean. Limited options for restaurants. Haveli Indian restaurent is available down side 1 km from hotel. Breakfast in hotel is not up to that level. Friendly staff and amazing Mountain View from balcony

The rooms were as per the advertising, clean and our apartment with a well equipped kitchenette. The beds were comfortable, however a view wasn't there from our apartment at the second floor. Do not get the apartment for 8 people, it is next to the restaurant (breakfast kitchen), as they started preparing breakfast early! Despite other reviews, we had good experience with the ski rental within the Hotel. The recommended ski-instructor by the Hotel was excellent.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Gudauri Hills Apart Hotel, and it was an outstanding experience! The hotel itself is modern, clean, and perfectly located for enjoying the stunning views of the Gudauri mountains. The rooms were spacious and well-equipped, making it feel like a home away from home. A special mention goes to Ms. Sophia at the reception—her warm hospitality and professionalism truly made our stay memorable. She went above and beyond to assist us, from providing local tips to ensuring every detail of our stay was perfect. Her friendly demeanor and genuine care for guests…

Planning your trip to Step'antsminda

When to go

The season is short and it shows in the prices. From mid-June to late September the passes are open, the high trails are clear of snow and the village runs at capacity; July and August are the busiest, priciest weeks of the year. They are also the cloudiest — Kazbek disappears behind its own weather most summer afternoons, so plan your viewing for early morning.

September and the first half of October are the best weeks to be here. The birches turn, the light is hard and clean, the marshrutkas stop being a scrum and rooms loosen up. Even then, nights at 1,740 m fall close to freezing; on any evening of the year you will want a jacket on the balcony.

Winter is cheap, dazzling and genuinely awkward. Snow and avalanche work close the Jvari Pass for hours or whole days, and the northern stretch towards the Larsi border can jam with lorries. Come between December and March and you should keep a spare day in the plan, confirm the room is properly heated, and treat onward travel as an intention rather than a schedule.

April and May are the in-between months: mud in the valley, deep snow above, and the rough tracks to Juta and Truso often still closed. Wildflowers arrive in June, but expect snow patches on anything over 2,500 m well into the month.

Getting there and around

Marshrutkas leave Tbilisi's Didube station for Stepantsminda through the morning and early afternoon, take roughly three to three and a half hours and cost something like 15-20 GEL. Shared taxis from the same yard cost more per seat but leave sooner; hiring a car and driver for the day, with stops at Ananuri and the Gudauri viewpoint, is a common arrangement.

The whole trip is one road, the Georgian Military Highway, over the Jvari Pass at 2,379 m. It is spectacular and it is fragile: long roadworks on the Kvesheti-Kobi section, snow closures in winter, and queues of freight heading for the border. Check the road status the night before you travel, and again in the morning if there is weather.

Once you are here, the village is small enough to cross on foot in fifteen minutes, and Gergeti is a twenty-minute walk over the Terek bridge and up. There is no public transport to the trailheads: drivers wait at the square for runs to the church, Sno, Juta and Truso. Truso sits in a border zone, so carry your passport.

Where to stay, zone by zone

The centre is the block around the main square, the market, the Alexander Kazbegi house museum and the marshrutka stand. Stay here if you are without a car: shops, bakeries, restaurants and departures are all a few minutes away, and prices sit at the lower end. The trade-off is van engines from six in the morning and views partly blocked by other buildings.

Upper Stepantsminda, on the slope above the highway, is where most of the view rooms are. Balconies here look straight across at Gergeti Trinity and up to Kazbek, which is what people came for. The walk back from dinner is a real climb, so if you are arriving with heavy bags, ask about a pickup.

Gergeti, across the river, is quieter still and puts the church trail at your door. It is a working village of dogs, cows and unlit lanes; bring a torch and allow fifteen to twenty-five minutes to the nearest shop. Prices are similar to the centre, and family guesthouses dominate.

Further out, Arsha, Pansheti, Sioni and Sno offer big-view stays five to twenty kilometres away, and Kobi sits at the head of the valley near the pass. All of them need a car or arranged transfers, and if you are choosing Kobi for access to the Gudauri ski area, confirm the gondola is actually running that season.

Eating and going out

Dinner at your guesthouse is the default and usually the best meal in town: soup, garden salads, potatoes with mountain cheese, khinkali, home wine and a bottle of chacha nobody will let you refuse. Reckon on something like 25-40 GEL a head, and say yes in the morning, because hosts shop and cook to order.

The restaurants cluster around the square and along the main road. Khinkali run to a couple of lari each, ordered by the five or seven; trout, lamb and khachapuri fill out the menu, and portions are mountain-sized. Kitchens wind down early, so assume last orders somewhere around nine or ten.

Nightlife is a couple of bars and your own terrace. In low season a good share of places simply close, so check before you count on a particular kitchen, buy hiking supplies during shop hours, and remember that altitude, a long walk and homemade spirits are a combination best treated with respect.

Booking well

The market here is small and seasonal. Across 112 properties in our 2026 scans, entry rooms started around US$43 and the median from-price landed near US$95. The cheap end is simple guesthouse rooms, sometimes with a shared bathroom or a walk from the centre; the middle of the market buys a heated double with a balcony pointed at the mountain.

Because stock is limited, August weekends, the New Year holidays and Georgian long weekends fill weeks ahead, and late bookers get whatever is left up the hill. Book early for those dates and choose flexible cancellation whenever the price gap is small — the pass closes without warning, and plans here change with the weather.

Ask concrete questions before you commit: how the room is heated, whether hot water is round-the-clock, whether the mountain view is the church or a neighbour's roof, whether dinner and breakfast are included, and whether they can meet the marshrutka. Keep some cash in lari for guesthouses and drivers; there are ATMs in the village, but not many.
