Rooms were very clean and comfortable, breakfast was healthy and nutritious. The only negative was the distance from Tbilisi itself. It was necessary to get a taxi although the receptionist was more than happy to organise this for us
The hotel building is nice but the rooms were not clean. There was a spider web in the corner of my room and the beds were not washed. It didn’t smell clean, there were yellow spots and crumbs in it, and I found little dark brown bugs in bed and in random places of the room. Seems like an infestation. The staff was very sweet at first but then the woman with the short white hair started being rude and scolded me about losing my key as I was returning to my hotel room (which I did not lose and had no intent to) and demanded I tell her my room number as I was going upstairs. Be extremely careful before you select this hotel in Tbilisi ######## The hotel don’t have an elevator for a 5 store building 😏. You will have to carry all your lagage your own as they don’t provide any help. I don’t know how these hotel is classified as 4 star ??? The hotel room is still ok and staff at the reception is very welcoming and helpful. You will have to be extremely careful during checkout since they will come up with simple things / odd findings in the room to make you pay big amount just before your flight. Planning your trip to Tbilisi
When to go
Tbilisi's best weeks run from late April to mid-June and from September to early November. In spring the hills above Sololaki turn green, balconies fill with flowerpots and evenings are warm enough to sit outside without a jacket. Autumn brings the grape harvest, clearer air and Tbilisoba in October, when the Old Town closes to traffic and half the city eats in the street.
July and August are genuinely hard work. Afternoon temperatures sit in the mid-thirties, the valley traps the heat and pavements stay warm long after dark, so sightseeing collapses into a long lunch. It is manageable if your room has real air conditioning and you treat roughly 13:00 to 17:00 as indoor time: baths, museums, a courtyard with a tree in it.
Winter is the cheap season with its own trade-offs. Snow rarely lies for long, January can be grey and damp, and on still days the valley holds traffic fumes and woodsmoke, so air quality dips noticeably. New Year is the exception on price, with demand climbing from about 28 December to 5 January. If you are adding the mountains, note that the road north over the Jvari Pass towards Gudauri and Kazbegi can close for hours or days in winter storms.
Getting there and around
The airport sits about 17 km southeast of the centre. Bus 337 runs day and night to Rustaveli and Freedom Square for roughly 1-2 GEL with a travel card, and an app taxi is typically 30-50 GEL depending on the hour. A limited train service reaches the central station, but it runs only a couple of times a day, so never build a tight arrival around it.
The two metro lines cross at Station Square and cost around 1 GEL a ride with a travel card; trains run until roughly midnight and the escalators are long and steep. City buses take the same card or a contactless bank card. Taxi apps are cheap enough that a crosstown hop usually lands somewhere between 5 and 15 GEL, which changes how far out you can sensibly stay.
The centre is walkable if you accept gradients, broken pavements and the occasional missing streetlight. The funicular climbs to Mtatsminda and a cable car crosses from Rike Park to Narikala. For onward travel, marshrutkas west and north to Kazbegi leave from Didube, and night trains to Batumi and Zugdidi go from the central station. A rental car is a liability inside the city — keep it for the day you leave.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Old Town, Abanotubani and Sololaki give you the postcard: carved balconies, sulphur domes, Narikala above you. They are also the noisiest streets in Georgia after dark, and the buildings are old. Ask directly about a lift, which floor you are on and how many outdoor steps stand between the taxi and the door.
Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom Square, Vera and the slopes towards Mtatsminda are the sensible middle ground. Metro is close, the Old Town is a fifteen-minute walk, and side streets go quiet by midnight. Vera in particular is full of small hotels tucked into courtyards, and it climbs, so check the map contour lines as well as the distance.
Across the river, Chugureti around Marjanishvili and Aghmashenebeli Avenue, and Avlabari under Sameba cathedral, are where the value sits. You get renovated apartments and family guesthouses, a bridge crossing of about ten minutes on foot, and less bar noise than the west bank.
Vake and Saburtalo trade sightseeing for normality: lifts, quieter nights, parks, real grocery shops, metro on the Saburtalo line. They work well for stays over a week. Sleeping near the airport or out in Didube and Gldani only makes sense on price alone, and be sceptical of listings that claim city centre without giving a street.
Eating and going out
Khinkali are priced per piece, roughly 1-1.5 GEL, and are ordered in fives and tens; a good khachapuri lands somewhere around 12-18 GEL and feeds two people who have already eaten. Bakeries selling bread straight from the wall oven are everywhere and cost small change. For produce, cheese and spices, Dezerter Bazaar behind the central station is still the liveliest market in town.
Wine by the glass generally runs 8-15 GEL, and in family-run places a carafe of house wine is cheaper and often better. Natural wine bars cluster in Chugureti and the Old Town; qvevri wine is the local point of pride, and staff are usually happy to explain rather than upsell. Tipping is around 10 percent, sometimes already added as a service charge, so check the bill.
Evenings start late and courtyards do the work of nightclubs. Bars behind Aghmashenebeli Avenue and in the Old Town lanes are the reason to book a room facing inwards rather than over the street. On Sundays the Dry Bridge market is worth an hour, and when the heat becomes unreasonable, locals escape uphill to Vake Park, Turtle Lake or the Botanical Garden.
