This page's “View on map” link opens the exact spot in Google Maps, so you can measure the journeys that matter to you.

The facilities, in detail

Practical services include 24 hour front desk, free car parking, laundry service and luggage storage. In the room itself: free wifi. The full list of 8 facilities is below; double-check the ones that are deal-breakers when you book, as hotels adjust what they offer by season.

Good to know before you book

The booking flow is three steps: dates and guests in this page's widget, the live price on app.impt.io, and instant confirmation. Most rooms are offered with free cancellation until a few days before arrival — the exact deadline is shown next to each rate before you pay. Every confirmed booking also removes a tonne of CO₂ through IMPT's carbon-removal projects, at no extra cost to you. When comparing, note that the three-star rating reflects the hotel's declared standard; the guest reviews on this page tell you how it actually feels to stay. Prices on this page are shown in US dollars, converted from the euro rates our scans observed; the exact total for your stay, including any taxes and fees, is confirmed in the booking funnel before you pay.

Where our data comes from

Through 2026 we ran 22 weekly scan rounds against the live IMPT booking funnel, probing one-night stays across the coming weeks for every hotel in this guide. Hotel Mars returned bookable rates in 1 of the stay windows we probed, most recently in October 2026. Prices you see here are per-night room rates converted to US dollars at the single euro rate used across this site; they are a planning aid, not a quote.

Zugdidi for hotel guests

That is honest, but it undersells the place. The Dadiani Palace museum keeps one of Napoleon's death masks, the botanical garden is genuinely pleasant, and Megrelian cooking — elarji, gebzhalia, ajika hot enough to sting — is reason enough to stay for dinner. The town is flat, green and humid, wetter than almost anywhere else in Georgia. We track 8 properties here in our 2026 scans, mostly guesthouses and small hotels, so beds thin out fast in July and August when the Mestia marshrutkas fill. All hotels in Zugdidi →

4/5 Kakha Khmelidze

This is a normal hotel in the city center. Nearby there are many necessary establishments and shops. It's even a good hotel, but not luxurious. The prices of their rooms are not cheap, but they are not expensive. This hotel, in my opinion, is about a three-star hotel. The three-bed room was good, quite spacious, there was even a table with chairs in the corner. There was air conditioning, a small balcony and spacious windows. It was pretty quiet. Although there were some small but somewhat significant problems and shortcomings that they need to correct. For example, the plugs were not next to…

Decent hotel, rooms are clean and big with a small balcony overlooking the street. The location is great, right in the center of the city, behind the city hall building and with walking distance to the palace and botanical gardens. The bathrooms are also spacey. The water supply in the morning was an issue and I could hardly take a shower with semi cold water. The breakfast was intended to be served in a restaurant next door. When we got there at 9, the staff was not there. When they arrived, they were rude, especially the barman. It's a shame that Zugdidi has no better hotels to offer. Hopef…

I didn't stay here. I stopped for directions. Staff was bilingual, treated me extremely well and even located my hotel by for me. If in Zugdidi again will definitely give them a call. It's up a flight of stairs across from McDonald's.

Planning your trip to Zugdidi

When to go

May, June and September are the sweet spot. The valley is green, the days are warm rather than punishing, and the Svaneti road is comfortably open. September also brings the harvest into the market — hazelnuts, persimmons, mountains of cheese. Early October still works, though the rain starts to settle in properly and mountain plans need a spare day built in.

July and August are hot and heavy here: low thirties, high humidity, mosquitoes in the lowlands towards the Enguri. It is also the peak transit month, when every second traveller in town is waiting for a Mestia minibus. If you come then, treat Zugdidi as a one-night staging post and book the room before you arrive.

Samegrelo is the wettest corner of Georgia, and rain is possible in any month — autumn is the heaviest. Winter is mild rather than cold, rarely much below freezing, but grey and sodden. The Jvari–Mestia road normally stays open all year, though snow, ice or a landslide can shut it for a few hours or a full day, so never plan a same-day flight connection out of the mountains.

Getting there and around

The train is the easiest arrival. There are usually a daytime and an overnight service from Tbilisi, taking around five and a half to six hours, and fares are low by any standard. The night train lands early in the morning, which lines up neatly with the Mestia minibuses. The station sits on the edge of the centre — walkable with light luggage, a few lari by taxi otherwise.

Marshrutkas from Tbilisi's Didube terminal take roughly six hours; Kutaisi is two to three, Batumi about three, Poti barely an hour. From Kutaisi International Airport a taxi or prebooked transfer takes around two hours and is a common move for people flying in to hike in Svaneti. Seats to Mestia cost in the region of 30–40 GEL and should be reserved a day ahead in summer.

In town, walking covers almost everything. Taxis are cheap — a hop across the centre is usually 5–10 GEL — but ride-hailing coverage is patchy, so agree the fare before you get in. For day trips, hiring a driver for several hours is the practical option: Enguri Dam and Jvari reservoir are half an hour out, Martvili Canyon about an hour, Anaklia's beach around forty minutes, Rukhi fortress barely fifteen.

Where to stay, zone by zone

The centre is where most of our scanned stock sits, in the blocks around Rustaveli Street, the Dadiani Palace and the park. It is flat, leafy, and everything a traveller needs — market, bakeries, pharmacies, a few decent kitchens — is inside ten minutes on foot. For a one- or two-night stop this is the sensible default, and taxis to the station are trivial.

Around the railway station the mood is plainer, but the logic is strong if you're on a dawn departure or stumbling off the night train. Rooms here are mostly small guesthouses and family-run places. You trade atmosphere for the ability to walk to your minibus with a rucksack instead of hunting for a taxi at six in the morning.

The market and bus-stand side is practical and cheap-feeling, with traders and engines going from first light — fine if you sleep well, less so if you don't. Further out along the Jvari road and in the surrounding villages you'll find garden guesthouses with real quiet and home cooking, but you'll need a car or a standing arrangement with a driver.

Anaklia, about forty minutes away on the coast, is sometimes floated as a summer alternative. Be realistic: it's a wide black-sand beach with a half-finished resort feel and very little going on outside July and August. It works as a lazy afternoon from Zugdidi rather than as a base, unless you specifically want empty sand.

Eating and going out

Megrelian food is the real attraction. Elarji — cornmeal beaten with sulguni until it stretches — gebzhalia in minted yoghurt, ghomi with cheese, kupati sausages, and the local khachapuri with cheese on top as well as inside. Ajika here is genuinely hot; ask before you spoon it on. Portions are large and sharing across the table is the normal way to eat.

The central market is worth an hour even if you don't cook: sulguni in every stage of smoking, dried spice blends, walnuts, churchkhela, honey. For meals, the centre has a modest cluster of restaurants and cafés around Rustaveli; guesthouses will often cook dinner for you for roughly 20–30 GEL a head, which is frequently the better meal.

Nights are quiet. A few bars and cafés stay busy near the centre, but most kitchens wind down by around ten, and Zugdidi is not a going-out town — plan dinner early. Samegrelo's own grape is Ojaleshi, a soft red worth asking for; a glass in a restaurant runs roughly 8–15 GEL, and homemade chacha will find you whether you ask or not.

Booking well

We track 8 properties in Zugdidi in our 2026 scans — a small pool, mostly guesthouses and modest hotels — and we don't have a reliable nightly range for the town, so treat any figure you see elsewhere with suspicion. What matters more than price here is availability: with stock this thin, a single busy summer weekend can empty the centre. Book July and August ahead.

Ask specific questions before confirming. Can they do breakfast before six, or pack something for the road? Will they store bags after checkout while you day-trip to Martvili? Is there heating and reliable hot water in winter, air conditioning in summer? Will someone open the door for a five a.m. train arrival? Small family places almost always say yes if asked in advance.

Check the exact location against the station and bus stand rather than trusting the word 'central' — Zugdidi is small, but a badly placed room still means a taxi at dawn. Confirm whether breakfast is included, and carry cash: ATMs are easy to find in the centre, but plenty of guesthouses, drivers and market stalls still prefer lari in hand.

Finally, build slack into the plan. Zugdidi exists on most itineraries as a hinge between the train and the mountains, and hinges fail — a closed road, a cancelled minibus, weather in Mestia. An extra flexible night here costs little and saves a great deal of stress. Also note that the Enguri crossing towards Abkhazia is not a casual side trip; do not plan around it.
