Good to know before you book
The booking flow is three steps: dates and guests in this page's widget, the live price on app.impt.io, and instant confirmation. Most rooms are offered with free cancellation until a few days before arrival — the exact deadline is shown next to each rate before you pay. Every confirmed booking also removes a tonne of CO₂ through IMPT's carbon-removal projects, at no extra cost to you. When comparing, note that the five-star rating reflects the hotel's declared standard; the guest reviews on this page tell you how it actually feels to stay. Prices on this page are shown in US dollars, converted from the euro rates our scans observed; the exact total for your stay, including any taxes and fees, is confirmed in the booking funnel before you pay.
Where our data comes from
Through 2026 we ran 22 weekly scan rounds against the live IMPT booking funnel, probing one-night stays across the coming weeks for every hotel in this guide. Ambassadori Kachreti Golf Resort returned bookable rates in 1 of the stay windows we probed, most recently in October 2026. Prices you see here are per-night room rates converted to US dollars at the single euro rate used across this site; they are a planning aid, not a quote.
Gurjaani for hotel guests
It sits on the last slope before the Alazani valley opens out, an hour and a half to two hours east of Tbilisi, ringed by villages whose names you have read on labels: Mukuzani, Akhasheni, Kardenakhi, Vazisubani. People base here to eat and drink their way around family cellars, to see the two-domed Kvelatsminda church on the edge of town, or to soak at the old Akhtala mud and sulphur baths. Our 2026 scans found only six hotels here, with rooms from about US$136 — a small, estate-heavy sample rather than a real market. All hotels in Gurjaani →

4.62348 reviewsTitle: Disappointing Stay – Outdated Facilities, Poor Management, and Constant Noise The rooms in the old building are extremely outdated. The lobby has no air conditioning, making the place uncomfortably hot. The main restaurant is also outdated, and while the food is acceptable, there is absolutely no variety. The main pool was closed when we arrived — the water looked green, which was very disappointing. We had originally booked a room in the new building but were given one in the old section instead. I’m not sure whether this was a mistake by the hotel or the booking company. In general…
Rooms and appliances: not a 5-star hotel, something between 3 and 4 stars (no toothpaste, broken toilet seats, water damage and mold on the walls). Breakfast: really good, not luxury, more common for 4-star hotels. Fresh, tasty, great selection, a lot of healthy foods. Pools: perfect, 10/10, my new benchmark for resorts. Clean, spacy, great for swimming and tanning. Sports facilities: excellent selection of activities and supplies, I haven't tried - but impressed by the range. Restaurant: good tasty food, mostly focused on Georgian dishes + classic pizza/pasta/burger combo. Food prices - valid…
The scenery and infrastructure like the pool is as good as the price you pay, unfortunately the service couldn't even pass as amateur, no shower gel in our bathtubs, room wasn't even cleaned after a whole day and we even had to make multiple phone calls just to get a second blanket in our room (which in the end they still messed up by giving us 2), and the restaurant was a horror show making us wait nearly 2 hours for a cheeseburger without cheese. P.S: terrible music blasted at full volume
Planning your trip to Gurjaani
When to go
Late September into October is rtveli, the grape harvest, and the only time Gurjaani feels genuinely busy. Cellars are crushing, the villages smell of fermenting must, and family estates happily put guests to work at the press. It is also when the tiny stock of rooms disappears first: reserve two or three months out if you want a specific place.
May and June are the quiet reward. The valley is green, evenings in the Gombori foothills stay cool, chakapuli with spring lamb and tarragon is on every table, and cellars still have time to sit and talk with you rather than process a queue.
July and August bake. The Alazani plain regularly pushes past 35°C and the middle of the day goes dead — locals eat late, nap, and move at dusk. Air conditioning is non-negotiable, a pool becomes a genuine reason to pick one property over another, and cellar visits should happen before noon.
Winter is bare vines, wood smoke and very little open. Some estates close entirely or receive only by prior arrangement, and the Gombori Pass road from Tbilisi can shut or turn treacherous after snow. Come for cheap quiet and long lunches, not a full programme, and check the route before you set off.
Getting there and around
Gurjaani is roughly 120 km from Tbilisi. The fast way climbs the Gombori Pass through forest to Telavi, then turns south — beautiful, about two hours, and unreliable in winter. The all-season alternative runs through Sagarejo and Bakurtsikhe across the lowlands: slower on paper, but flat and open when the pass is not.
Marshrutkas to Kakheti leave Tbilisi from the yards around Samgori and Isani through the morning and early afternoon, cost on the order of 10-15 GEL and take two and a half to three hours. Gurjaani is on the main highway, so almost anything bound for Telavi, Sighnaghi or Lagodekhi can drop you at the roadside.
Passenger rail to Kakheti has come and gone over the years; treat a train as a bonus, never a plan. Tbilisi airport is the practical arrival point, about two hours away by road, and pre-booked transfers are easy to arrange through your accommodation.
On the ground, a car changes everything: the appellation villages are 5-20 km apart with thin bus links. Ride-hailing apps are patchy outside Tbilisi, so taxis come by phone or through your host, and short local hops cost a few lari. Georgia has zero tolerance on drink-driving — hire a driver for tasting days, around 150-250 GEL.
Where to stay, zone by zone
Be realistic about the market first. Our 2026 scans picked up only six hotels in Gurjaani, with from-prices starting around US$136 a night and a median close to that — a small sample skewed towards vineyard estates and restored manor houses. Family guesthouses and cellar rooms exist and cost much less, but they sit outside our hotel scan.
Central Gurjaani is where practicality lives: the park, the market, bakeries with shoti straight from the tone, pharmacies, ATMs and the stop where marshrutkas pull in. Stay here if you have no car. The trade-off is highway noise and a centre that is frankly workaday rather than pretty.
The villages around town — Velistsikhe, Vazisubani, Mukuzani, Akhasheni, Kardenakhi, Chumlaki, Kachreti — hold the atmospheric stays: courtyards, qvevri sunk into the floor, dinner cooked by the family. All of them assume a car or an arranged driver, and your evening is whatever your host puts on the table.
Above town, the Akhtala side carries the old mud-and-sulphur spa tradition. If you want more choice and restaurants you can walk to, Telavi (about 40 km north) and Sighnaghi (about 35 km southeast) have far deeper hotel stock; Gurjaani's argument is that it is quieter and closer to the cellars.
Eating and going out
The Kakhetian table is the point. Mtsvadi grilled over dry vine cuttings, khinkali ordered by the piece, chakapuli in spring, badrijani nigvzit, tomato and cucumber drowned in walnut, and shoti torn hot from the clay oven. A proper sit-down meal usually lands around 30-50 GEL a head; khinkali run a couple of lari each.
Wine here is poured rather than chosen. Cellars work in qvevri: amber Rkatsiteli and Kisi, dark Saperavi, and the Mukuzani and Akhasheni names that belong to villages you can see from the road. Tastings are normally by appointment — a day's notice is plenty — and a glass of house wine in a restaurant runs about 5-8 GEL.
Going out, in the nightlife sense, does not happen. Dinner is the evening, kitchens wind down around ten, and the town is quiet after that. That suits an early cellar start and a supra that ran long; it disappoints anyone hoping for bars.
Mornings belong to the market: cheese, churchkhela hung like candles, tklapi fruit leather, herbs and whatever the season is doing. Village wine by the litre in refilled bottles runs something like 10-15 GEL if a host offers, and in smaller villages eat lunch before three, when kitchens simply stop.
Booking well
Timing beats tactics. For rtveli weekends in late September and October, book two to three months ahead; six hotels is not a market with slack in it. Outside harvest a week or two is usually enough, and midweek is easier across Kakheti than Friday and Saturday, when Tbilisi drives out.
Our 2026 scans put entry rates around US$136 with a median close to that, so do not expect the small-town bargain the map implies. If that is over budget, look at guesthouse and village-room listings, or base yourself in Telavi where the stock is broader and drive in for the day.
Message the property before you pay. Ask exactly where it is — 'Gurjaani' on a listing can mean a village 12 km out — whether dinner and breakfast must be pre-ordered, whether there is air conditioning for August and real heating for January, and whether they can arrange a driver.
Carry cash. Cards work in town, but village cellars, taxis and small kitchens often want lari, and ATMs thin out once you leave the highway. Take a flexible cancellation rate in winter, when the Gombori Pass can rewrite an itinerary overnight, and confirm your arrival hour — small places lock up early.
